Actions speak louder than words

I was reading in my Bible this morning in Titus and came across a verse, which I think is about Cretians, but can certainly be applied to many people in our society today.
"They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate."~Titus 1:16
I've been thinking a lot lately of people I've prayed for, reached out to, and invested time in. I've been disappointed with their words, actions, and lifestyles. I try not to dwell on these things too much, but am constantly reminded of the true desires of their hearts as they are all over their Facebook profiles and what they talk about in person too. It's very concerning. It may sound like I have everything figured out and am blameless...that's not true. My sins have been forgiven and are under the blood of Christ, but I still sin. I'm not better than anyone else, I know that. I just wonder how this has happened? How people who have been taught what is right from the Bible and who claim to be Christians can live like the world and "pay their dues" by showing up to most, some, or very few church services?
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."~Hebrews 10:25
How do they justify this kind of lifestyle? In some cases, I want to (as kindly as possible) ask them to stop dragging my Saviour's Name through their dirty and sinful lives. They must realize they're hurting the Saviour's Name by proclaiming they are followers of Christ and living exactly like an unsaved person. Unbelievers have expectations for Christians that sometimes even exceed our own standards. What a message they're sending~ ya, just live however you'd like, call yourself a Christian, and you'll be safe when you die, just like me. Sure, that's realistic! Some who claim to be Christians are saying with their actions~ sleep with whoever you'd like without being married, get rich quick and make that your ultimate goal, listen to the world's advice and forget about the Bible, never read your Bible or just read it out of duty, never change any sin in your life that you know God wants you to, manipulate others so you can get things for free, don't bother every lifting a finger to do any work but expect everything to be handed to you, have a me first attitude always, use your money to meet wants first and not needs, swear if it helps you fit in, since you know it's really bad to take the Lord's Name in vain then just use slang or abbreviations, dress in whatever fashion is in especially if it makes guys notice you (and then you've helped them sin too, btw), don't bother listening to authority, and the list goes on. This is definitely me ranting. These are reoccurring thoughts I've been having and it's a burden on my heart. Have others noticed this trend in our society as well? The first question I ask is, is this person truly saved? I believe some claim to be Christians because they've grown up in good Christians homes. Others, I think, perceive Christianity as a lifestyle and a list of rules to follow so you can have a happier and more socially acceptable life. Others, I think, want to be Christians because they have known true Christians and have seen the difference in their lives, and possibly even because they have been convicted by the Holy Spirit and know they should become Christians. Others, I think, are truly saved but have never grown in their relationship with the Lord and haven't been taught from God's Word what He expects, they've only been told a list of rules that they might not see the point in following. Often I think people know what God expects a Christian to be, but simply do not care because they would rather please themselves than God. I'm sure there are more reasons as well. My next questions is, how have I failed in being an example that they can follow, boldly and humbly reproving wrong actions and attitudes, and asking them straight up about their salvation and/or lack of fruit? Is this simply a sign of the times?
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."~II Timothy 2:3-4

This is precisely why I left Facebook in October. I found that confronting people (Christians), even though I did it kindly, only made more enemies since they weren't interested in the truth of God's Word. Anyway, it was discouraging me so much that it was hindering my own spiritual growth. I know I have been able to focus more on just growing as God wants me to, without the hinderance of carnality.
BTW, I'm not saying you should get off FB~ just saying I understand what you mean! :) But it sure brought more peace to my heart when I got off.

Leah~Thanks for the comment and I'm glad someone else understands! I am sorry to hear about people not being interested in God's Word, but am not surprised that's the reaction you got. I am considering getting off Facebook...it's just the good friends who are far away contact and family and friends like to see little Lucy. :) I might need to get off, for a while at least, we'll see.

Hi Krystle,It truly is a very sinful world we live in.But you are doing a wonderful job with leading people to Christ and keep up the good work.We all experience disappointments in people we try to help, and their actions or things they say.Just continue to pray for them and continue on to the next person with a need. You have always been an amazing inspiration to me and someone I always wanted to be like.God Bless You.

I love your blog, Krys. I am glad you are on FB-- that is the only way I can keep in touch with you and quite a few of my Canadian friends. But Matt and I have left FB for a time and have dropped friends that were not edifying and were truly grievous to stay in touch with. You know, Matt and I have talked of the same things that you posted about. It is sad to see those who claim to have been forgiven yet are still covered in the mud of the world. They do not have victorious Christian lives. They are not experiencing the joy that is found in serving Christ. They do not care what the Bible has to say... they heap to themselves teachers (or even Pastors) having itching ears! Pray for them... love them... and train Lucy and this new little one to love the Lord with all of their hearts! Training up this next generation to have a love for the Lord and a desire to obey!
Keep going, Krys! The Lord is so good and so faithful!! Becky Flegal
