Today started off pretty sweet! I actually got sleep and am so thankful to God! Then I found out what time it was, T-40 minutes til we had to be out of the house for the showing, and Lucy hadn't woken up for her breakfast yet! Scott brought me half a warm, buttered, poppy-seed muffin so I could get out of bed. So spoiled (loved)!
Lucy awoke and within a few minutes, coughed up some mucous...a few times. Slightly concerned, but on with breakfast.
After she was 3/4 way done her cereal, she coughed and vomited. Not cool, not cool at all. The house was now presentable, so we headed to Mum and Dad's house.
Happy birthday to my Dad!!!
Lucy drank all of her bottle there and we headed to the doctor for Lucy's check-up. Becky got us a spot on very short notice, so good! By the time we got there though, the wait time was too long since we still needed lunch and for Scott to get to work, so we headed home.
Our Dr. friend was going to bring her Dr bag to church tonight and check Lucy and if needed, Becky said she could get us into our family doctor tomorrow. What a great friend!
When we got home, we ate lunch and Lucy took a nap. When Lucy woke up from her nap, I was planning to get her lunch ready and her bottle...Shelby called, yay! So we chatted, but Lucy was leaning on me and not being a wiggly worm, showing no hungry signs....slightly concerned.
Then out of nowhere she threw up the rest of her cereal and almost her whole bottle of formula, but it was not coughing induced. Ok, concerned now! I tried to clean us and the couch up and noticed Lucy's head getting warm. I told Shelb I'd give her a call back a little later and phoned Telecare. While waiting for the Telecare nurse to call back, I almost started crying. While she was throwing up, she hadn't breathed for a while and she had turned red. I remembered Who was in control and started praying, then I didn't cry. Yay!
After the nurse assessed the situation and Lucy's breathing, I was instructed to take her to the hospital within the hour. Deal!

There's are not related at all, but flowers Mum got me! Happy! |
Scott was dropping kids off from school (at work), so Mum came and took us to the good hospital in town. I ran around the house collecting the items I would need for at least the next few hours, then changed a very disgusting diaper, and got Mum to take a picture. Gross? I know. :) When we arrived at the hospital, we waited a little while, gave her some Tylenol for the fever, and Lucy napped. When she woke up, she was having a great time waving and talking at people in the waiting room. I was texting my good friend and keeping her updated. She was praying. :)
Then we got to go in our own little room in the back...and the fun began. (sarcasm) The doctor came to check her...by now she started crying almost as soon as she saw anyone wearing green. She cried more in the four hours in the hospital than she has in the last 5 months combined probably!
The doctor sent her for xrays, Scott got to hold her arms up while she sat on this bicycle seat in an enclosed plastic tube. I sat outside the room and listened to her wail. Mum sat in another waiting room 'cause she didn't want to see Lucy crying.
While waiting for the xray results, we gave Lucy some Pedialyte. She kept it down. Then she started crying, her hungry cry. We gave her 5 oz of her formula. Projectile vomit within a few minutes. Bad life choice. The doctor walked in right after with the xray results. He mentioned possible lung infection or pneumonia.
Mum needed to leave 'cause she had to get home to bring Dad his supper and it's his birthday!

Not related, but our Christmas cactus is blooming, a lot. |
The doctor didn't want to make his final decision based only on the xray results, so blood was taken within a few minutes...from her finger...pricked, and then squeezed out. I paced in the hallway. Lucy wailed. Scott consoled. The nurse felt bad. Lucy gave her smiles and giggles later on to make up for it though.
When I came back in to do some comforting, there was some of Lucy's blood on Scott's shoe. Apparently, she's a really good bleeder, the nurse said. I felt ill and sat down til the dizziness past. What a wimp!
Then another nurse had to take the tape off from under her diaper. I left the room for this as well. When she cries, my heart breaks. We had a good cuddle after.
While waiting for the results, we gave Lucy some more Pedialyte and she sucked it back, and kept it down! We kept giving her more...slowly. I conjured up some water since I'm preg and drink like a horse. Scott looked almost as tired as he did right after I had Lucy. He said that was the most tired he's ever been in his life.
Lucy was cuddly, but also playful and began to get really chatty. She found the bandage on her finger (from where they took blood) so fascinating and kept rubbing it on everything. Cute!

Not related, but something happy! |
The doctor came back with his decision and was impressed to see Lucy's happy demeanor back and that her rosy cheeks had returned. He said the blood work came back negative for infection. Praise the Lord! He said it's just a really bad viral cold and to come back if her fever is not gone in 48 hours. He also warned us the radiologist might call us back for more xrays, just to be sure. We were thrilled to be leaving with a child who just has a cold! God is so merciful and good.
Now we need to keep her fever down til it leaves, keep her hydrated with Pedialyte, and slowly get her back on formula and then solids. It definitely felt like we lived 3 days in 4 hours though. Now I have a better idea of one of the possible reasons God gave me such a good night's sleep last night. So thankful for His provision!
On the way home from the hospital, Scott got some Pedialyte and a few other treats. He presented me with an ice cream sandwich after we got Lucy to bed. Then we had chicken burgers and now we're going to eat some chocolate cake that I just made. Hope it's good! So here I head, back to the good life of health and food. What a wonderful God we serve! :)

Poor little Lucy! I'll be praying that her cold gets better soon. So many people have had awful colds this winter/spring it seems!
im glad for little lucy. i will be praying for her!
Thanks friends!
I'm just now seeing this- I hope she's better by now. It's scary when kids are sick, and torture to wait to find out what's wrong!
Just weirdly curious as to why you took a pic of the diaper- for the nurse?
Leah~Ya, we took it just to show the hospital people...but then my Mum and I forgot the camera! The consistency quickly changed anyway, and is still changing. Diaper talk! Haha. :)
