Kitty Saved from the Manure Lagoon!

The Lagoon
Danger. Death. Stinky. Scary. Stay away.
These are some of the things that come to my mind when I hear the word lagoon.
The thought of getting too close terrifies me...fall in=die.
You simply cannot swim in poop (manure, to be a little more proper).

So we plan in advance for Scott's sister to pick up his cousin and then Lucy and I so we can all go together and visit Scott while he's working at the farm, so they can have a tour. 'Cause that's the cool thing to do. :)
Plans change a wee bit when I suggest taking our NEW VAN instead, since Lucy's car seat is already installed and such...we almost run out of gas, but the Lord provides! (we made it to the gas station after our farm trip)

All goes as normal as any other farm tour. People get stinky and kinda dirty, there are poo's and moo's (to quote my husband), calves suck your hands and you can't figure out where to wipe the dripping drool, kittens steal your heart, you step in something you wish you hadn't, flies land on you, etc.
We love the farm!
For the first time, we planned to end our tour by checking out the horses and taking a peek at the manure lagoon. Even though I worked at the farm for a summer, I have never seen the lagoon close up...for fear and honestly, I think it's kinda gross.

I looked from a distance and decided to talk to Lucy about what sound a horsey makes instead...until Scott's sister said, "Uh, there's a cat in there." (insert really sad face). I immediately visualized a dead cat with its tail sticking out of the poop. Then I quietly mumbled about how it better not be Tartan. Scott looked at me and said, "It is Tartan." I decided to look and it was! BUT she was ALIVE!! Scott's sister had heard meowing and that's the reason she looked in the first place!

I was so happy that Tartan was alive, since we haven't seen her for months, though the kids who live on the farm have seen her often. But now...she's in the lagoon... and the farmer and his family are on vacation...and I'm terrified of my husband falling in the lagoon...and Lucy is starting to gag for the smell...and the mosquitoes are attacking...and how are we going to save our kitty's life???!!

So Scott runs to get some harnesses, ties them together, and tries to lasso Tartan. She gets even more scared and starts to make her way to the other side of the lagoon. The fact that God is in control of every situation is the only reason the poop crust didn't break and that the cat didn't get sucked in and swallowed up by that manure.

So then Scott's sister suggests a wooden plank. Scott finds a long wooden board and places it, on a slant, in the lagoon. Tartan gets scared and retreats to another part of the lagoon, still not getting sucked in, to her death. Scott leaves to find a bucket to put cat food in and in hopes of bringing her up that way. Scott's sister takes Lucy to the van so she can stop gagging. :)

While Scott looks for a bucket, I call Tartan and she tries to come to me, completely avoiding the plank, still not getting sucked in! Scott's cousin chilled with me. I try one more time to call Tartan over to the wooden plank and when she got on it, I encouraged her all the way up, and she came right to me as soon as her little poopy feet were on safe ground! I wanted to pick her up and hug her SO bad! Something was stopping me though....the manure her legs were covered in.

She proceeded to follow me all the way to the barn, which is strange since normally she's all about doing her own thing. She was very disoriented though so it took a little longer than normal and more encouragement...Although a couple times I told her to wait for me. I don't move that fast, being two weeks away from the due date and such.

Scott had some food and water for her, which she devoured...with a couple breaks to TRY to rub on my legs. I gave her lots of pats on the head, the clean part of her. That was the craziest trip to the farm ever!

Scott and I were just in awe of how God worked this situation in our lives. The cat we had to send to the farm because she was peeing everywhere just "happens" to be stuck in the lagoon of death the one time we bring people for a tour and then we even go to look at the lagoon. Scott's sister hears a faint meow and decides to check it out, the cat is still alive, and then the Lord allows us to rescue our cat and she remembers both of us and we have a wonderful reunion! Not to mention the fact that we had planned to go last Thursday, then this past Monday, but rescheduled b/c of Hurricane Irene and other plans.
What a mighty, compassionate, loving, powerful God we serve!!!
